LAAD Defence and Security is one the most prominent International exhibition fairs taking place in Latin America. An opportunity for companies and public organisations being acquainted with the newest defence technologies and high-end equipment, not to mention consultancy, which is highly valuable in this sector.
In the past decade, Brazilian government has increased its interests on this segment as the country gained international attention as an emerging market and, due to the pre-salt oil reserves discovery and other natural resources, security and space monitoring has thereby gained financial and political support.
Private companies see the Brazilian market as strategic and bulging, especially when attracted by local governments interested in the aggregated value that the segment brings with it. The main objective of a local government participation in this fair is to expand business opportunities for the state and promote international contacts with foreign companies as well as attract other ventures and future partnerships.
One of the states that is represented at LAAD is the State of Rio Grande do Sul. An institutional booth of the State of Rio Grande do Sul will introduce visitors to the State’s differentials in the industry. It stands out as the most developed state in Brazil regarding defence and security equipment, the quality of its human resources in this field is due to the concentration of military institutions, hence, the state of Rio Grande do Sul holding a major technological and industrial center with chain suppliers and robust export tradition.
Another Brazilian state that has greatly valued the defence segment is Minas Gerais. Not only the local government, in the past years, have attracted international investments but also is developing a “defence city” under its capital city Aerotropolis.
Having the country’s only helicopter manufacturer (Helibras) supplying military force with the first in-flight refueling helicopter is of utmost importance for the local government’s plans. Another company shining a light to the Minas Gerais state is IVECO. The Case New Holland member has been manufacturing military vehicles for the federal government in its factory in Sete Lagoas and has in LAAD a great opportunity to showcase its products.
Minas Gerais interests on the defence segment stretch to the Bio based Economy as Biofuels are being researched by its Federal University Laboratories (UFMG) under a Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) agreement.
NBSO Brazil can introduce possible partners interested in selling equipment and/or present new developments of the Dutch sector for this specific sector.
