Networking at opening cocktail of Mondrian exhibition in Belo Horizonte

Networking opportunities at the opening of the exposition of Dutch artist Mondrian in Belo Horizonte.

On Tuesday 19 July the Centro Cultural do Banco do Brasil – CCBB opened the exposition “Mondrian & o movimento De Stijl” in its premises in Belo Horizonte. The opening cocktail with Dutch treats was organised together with NBSO Brazil, the Dutch Consulate-General in Rio de Janeiro and ArtUnlimited. The official opening was done by Carlos Nagib Monteiro, General Manager of CCBB in Belo Horizonte, Angelo Oswaldo dos Santos, Secretary of Culture of the State of Minas Gerais, Arjen Uijterlinde, Consul-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Rio de Janeiro, and Pieter Tjabbes, Curator of the exposition and Director of ArtUnlimited.

NBSO Brazil had the chance to invite its network contacts – among which State Government representatives, Municipal contacts and working relations from the Federation of Industries of Minas Gerais (FIEMG) – and Dutch companies to meet and network at the cocktail. Prior to the opening the invitees of NBSO received a first and exclusive tour through the exposition guided by curator Piert Tjabbes. One of the main invited guests was Fernando Rocha, Industrial Director of Philips in Varginha. From out of the Dutch Network participated Consul-General Arjen Uijterlinde, Nico Schiettekatte, the Dutch Counselor for Science, Technology & Innovation based in São Paulo, Remon Daniel Boef, Chief Representative of NBSO Brazil  Marcos Souza, Deputy Representative Belo Horizonte of NBSO Brazil, View the pictures of the event in the attached galery.

About the exposition

The exposition, organised by Art Unlimited and sponsored by the Banco do Brasil, with support of Banco Votorantim, will be available to the general public until September 26 in Belo Horizonte.

It is the first time a great number of De Stijl related works is shown to the public in Brazil. It has 30 Mondrian-signed works that comes from the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. From early Dutch landscapes to his most famous rectangles, the exhibition travels through early 20th century-Europe, time of which Piet Mondrian have acquired a variety of influences. His tones were brightening and his compositions were getting bolder. In a continuous process, after a temporary influence of cubism, he sought ways to abstract the reality and seek the essence of the image.

Mondrian and the De Stijl movement is the title CCBB in partnership with the Art Unlimited prepared for the local exhibition, it’s an unmissable opportunity. “We organise everything in such a way that the visitor can follow his course and understand that those colored rectangles that live today in the imagination of the modern,  so easily recognizable, were not born of a sudden, not by chance,” explains exhibition curator, Pieter Tjabbes.

For Mondrian, art could become universal and that is what he intended with his works, transcending modern art, based on the purity of the primary colors, the flat surface of the forms and dynamic tension on their screens. And his companions of De Stijl had not only a similar view, but also applied these concepts to all kinds of art, such as Design, Architecture, Music and others.
