The Kingdom of the Netherlands and Brazil carried out an important initiative for economic and social development. The signing of the “Green Ports Partnership” took place simultaneously in both countries, during World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition (May, 10th).
The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, spoke during the partnership signing ceremony in Brazil about the expectation regarding cooperation. “Ports are the base of Dutch economy but are also the base of competitivity around the world”, he said.
“Holland, with its expertise in ports and logistics, is looking to cooperate, and that is what we are doing. And from now on we will do much more together. Green Hydrogen is not a technology to be used in a far away future, it is the present, it is happening now. We are laying the foundation of the future in green economy”, highlighted Mark Rutte.
The Green Ports Partnership was signed simultaneously at the Port of Rotterdam and Pecem Port Complex Integration. This marks the start of a three-year period of trade collaboration and activities between the two countries, with the main goal of supporting Dutch companies wanting to export and invest in Brazil, as well as supporting Brazilian companies with expansion and investment plans in the Netherlands.
This is a public and private initiative, with 27 Dutch signatories, in addition to Rotterdam Partners and the Port of Rotterdam, and support from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
At the Pecem Port Terminal, in Fortaleza, which is part of the port of Rotterdam, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, participated in the signing of the partnership. At the same time, in The Netherlands, representatives from Rio Grande do Sul and Parana states were present, on behalf of Rio Grande and Paranagua ports, that are signatories of the partnership.
The parties signing the joint statement include: Rotterdam Partners, The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Port of Rotterdam, Wind & water works, TNO, Arcadis, Platform Zero, Peterson Integrated Logistics TT Ltd., STC Nestra, Stinis, Damen, STC International, Trans Hydrogen Alliance, AquaSmartXL, APM Terminal, Witteveen+Bos, Government of the State of Ceara, Porto of Pecem, Federation of Industries of the State of Ceara, Federal University of Ceara, Government of the State of Parana, Administration of the Ports of Paranagua and Antonina, Federation of Industries of the State of Parana, Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Portos RS Port Authority of the Ports of Rio Grande do Sul S.A., Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Sindienergia-RS.
The event also had the participation of the Chief Representative of NBSO Porto Alegre, Richard Posma, and the Deputy representative, Lucila Almeida.
GREEN HYDROGEN CORRIDOR – After signing the contract, the Pecem Complex and the Port of Rotterdam, an end-to-end supply chain corridor for green hydrogen will be created. This includes production at Pecem and receipt and distribution at the Port of Rotterdam in order to meet demand in the Netherlands and other European countries.
With mutual goals to accelerate the energy transition in Brazil and the Netherlands, this partnership paves the way for hydrogen developments and green energy systems. This significant cooperation was made possible by Rotterdam Partners, the Port of Rotterdam, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, The Netherlands Economic Diplomatic Network in Brazil and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). Varous companies, as well as public and private industry organisations are also taking part in this collaboration.
