Study on Brazil's Chemical Industry

During times of economic constraints, some industries review strategies while others broaden their operations. The chemical and petrochemical industry in Brazil has chosen both practices as it is ranked sixth in the world’s chemical industries and it is taking actions to encourage investments on innovation and smart solutions because of its long tradition on raw materials and agro fertilizers.

Although the country is continental-sized, most of industries are found in the states of São Paulo and Bahia with large petrochemical plants and cosmetics laboratories. Thus, sector’s fairs and trade events tend to take place in the São Paulo state, promoting networking and B2B meetings they are seen as important hubs for opportunities.

On opportunities, for the coming years, investments in refining is demanded due to the pre-salt oil discoveries. There are opportunities for Dutch consultancy and smart sustainable solutions. Over the last decade, researches were mostly directed at first and second-generation bio energy and biofuels.
