Minas Gerais produces 570.00 tons of tomatoes yearly (2017) and is the second largest tomato producing state in Brazil (14% of national production).

In order to add value within Minas Gerais in stead of exporting tomatoes to to other states, Minas Gerais is currently looking to expand industrial capacity for tomato processing within Minas Gerais. Certain incentives are offered to (foreign) investors looking to install processing plants. Not only are there tax incentives for the sales of the industrialized  product (2% inner state tax in stead of 18%), but foreign investors can import machinery, technology and raw materials free of state taxes.

Please find below a short presentation by FIEMG (Federation of Industries Minas Gerais) of the Tomato sector and incentives offered. In case you are interested to learn more please contact the NBSO Belo Horizonte office  info@NBSO-Brazil.com.br
